Gates®

Gates was founded in 1911 by Charles Gates and was later joined by his brother John, the inventor of the revolutionary V-belt for automotive power transmission. The company went on to develop belts and hoses for the automobile industry and their designs include the first synchronous belt. By the end of the 1950’s Gates had opened its first factory in Europe and went on expanding and acquiring hose, transmission and valve companies including the Mectrol Corporation under the name of EMB manufacturing hydraulic tube connection systems. In 1996 Gates became part of the Tomkins global engineering group.

Gates is a major supplier to the car and machine industries, supplying virtually all car manufacturers worldwide. It is a leading designer and manufacturer within the automobile industry through its belt drive system which is specified OEMs worldwide. Gates also supplies belts to the motorcycle market to companies like Harley Davidson and Peugeot MTC.

The company provides high precision tools for computer printers, industrial compressors and agricultural harvester and supplies manufacturers with fluid power applications and hydraulic power transmission systems.
